C1: Lesson Six Assignment

Vocabulary

Learn the vocabulary on pages 55-56 of your text book. Don’t concern your self with ὅς, ἥ, and ὅ (masc., fem. & neuter forms for who, which, what) in section 7.1.1 right now. We will introduce these in the next lesson. (In the 1986 edition, see the vocabulary list on pages 35-36.)


Homework

In the exercises on pages 62-63 of your text book, translate #’s 1, 2, 6, & 7 in part (Greek to English). Then translate the sentences below, both Greek to English and English to Greek. (In the 1986 edition, translate #’s 1, 2, 6, & 7 in part A on pages 40-41.)

Translate the following into English:

  1. αὐτὸς γὰρ σώσει τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ1 τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν.
  2. καὶ ἐγὼ αὐτὸς ἄνθρωπος.
  3. οὐ γὰρ ἐν2 λόγῳ ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ ἀλλ’ ἐν δυνάμει.3
  4. ὁ δὲ αὐτὸς διδάσκαλος ἄξει ἡμᾶς εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ.
  5. αὐτὸς γὰρ λέγει τοὺς αὐτοὺς λόγους αὐτοῖς καὶ ἡμῖν.
  6. γινώσκομεν οὖν τὰ αὐτά.

ἀπό is a preposition meaning “from”; it takes an object in the genitive case.
ἐν is a preposition meaning “in”; it takes an object in the dative case.
δυνάμει is a fem. dat. sing. form of the 3rd declension noun δυνάμις, power.

Translate the following into Greek:

  1. We women ourselves teach our children.
  2. The children themselves hear the word of God.
  3. She herself has sin.
  4. I myself have authority.
  5. You yourself shall see the same sign.
