Vocabulary
You will encounter the word ἰδοὺ several times in the homework for this lesson. When we get to the imperative mood, we’ll explain this term, but for now, simply translate it as the exclamation “behold.”

The following includes neither a genitive absolute nor a periphrastic construction: ἡμεῖς δὲ ἡμέρας ὄντες νήφωμεν. 1 Thess. 5:8
- What case is ὄντες?
- With what noun or pronoun does it agree?
- νήφωμεν is from νήφω. What explains the lengthened connecting vowel in νήφωμεν?
- Consider translating νήφωμεν as a hortatory subjunctive, and translate the sentence.
